Showcase: Rotex-BHPhilipp Sander
We are Rotex-BH, from Belo Horizonte, Brazil! Our group was founded in 1971 by some of the first people to go on exchange through Rotary in our state, Minas Gerais. We are a quite big group, with around 30 active members, but also have a large number of less-active members who still join us as former members. The current active group has exchangers that just returned, but also people that went on exchange 10 years ago!
We work closely with two Rotary Districts in Belo Horizonte, District 4520 and 4760. Every year, over 100 students go abroad or arrive for and from their exchange experience. Our main task is helping both committees make the exchange program the best possible. To do so, we always take part in every Outbound orientation during their preparation year, sharing all the knowledge we have to ensure they leave Brazil prepared to face all of the challenges that await them. We also help the Inbounds with every problem that surfaces. As we are quite an old Rotex, there is always someone that was on exchange in their country of origin and we are always pleased to help. The Rebounds are the ones who we work the most with, helping them readapt to life in Brazil and making sure to awaken their interest in becoming part of Rotex and keeping the wheels turning!
We are also a very friendly and active group as we are always organizing meet-ups, gatherings, parties, games competitions, and so on. These events always gather donations which we put towards social events which we help out at. We are all a bit like Rotarians after all, and helping the community is also our duty.
Even though we have been around for a long time, we still feel very young and eager to learn and help! For everyone coming on exchange to Belo Horizonte, let us know and let’s meet-up! For everyone else, drop us a message and say hi! We love meeting new people and sharing experiences.
To all the Rotexes around the globe, let’s work together in making Rotex even stronger!
