We are going to Atlanta!Philipp Sander
Three members of the Rotex International Board will be attending the Rotary World Convention in Atlanta from June 7-14, 2017. Together with Rotary International’s Youth Exchange Chair Ekkehard Musick our board members Helen Salminen, Shang-Hans Lee, and Sophie Richter will be participating in workshops and discussion at this year’s Youth Exchange Officers Pre-Convention. The three day long Pre-Convention will focus on developments within the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.
Helen, Hans, and Sophie will be present as podium speakers, participate in discussions and workshops, and hold presentations about Rotex. They will be participating in the following workshops:
Workshop 1.1: Youth Exchange Alumni: Rotex worldwide
Discussion with International Rotex on how to best involve Rotex in Youth Exchange and how best use their experience
This workshop is going to deal with the involvement of Rotex in the Youth Exchange Program. Rotexers from different countries will be presenting their individual work as Rotex clubs and accomplishments with the exchange program. This workshop also contains an open discussion with all Youth Exchange officers. Our board members will be sitting on the podium, prepared to answer everyone’s questions.
Workshop 4.1: Beyond the 4 D’s
Developing a new approach for student behavior
This workshop is going to deal with the 4 D’s and will strive to find an alternative framework for the future. It is planned to develop a “Code of Honour” – something that looks beyond the prohibitions and still mediates in different cultures.
Workshop 6.1: Involving Youth Exchange Alumni
How to stay in contact with Promising YE Alumni that have developed leadership qualities in work with Rotex and/or Roteract
Many active Rotexers and Rotaracters have developed leadership qualities while serving Rotary. Some often call them “the future Rotarians” and this is exactly the topic this workshop deals with. It aims to find a way to keep these young people with great potential closer to Rotary and let them stay in touch and involved.
From Cultural Awareness to World Peace with Youth Exchange
During the main Convention many of Breakout Sessions are held. During Breakout Sessions, Rotarians break out of their usual field and sneak into different workshops that will bring them closer the other fields Rotary is active in. That being said, this Breakout Session is going to reach out to Rotarians who have never heard of RYE before or have at least never gotten involved with it personally.
Our board members are looking forward to a unique conference in Atlanta together with other Rotexers from around the globe. We are looking forward to networking, collaborating, sharing best practices, and learning from the experiences of others in order to ensure the future development of Rotex worldwide and the Rotex International Board. Please reach out to us if you are attending the convention as well—we would love to meet up!
