Rotex developments in BrazilPhilipp Sander
In November 2016, Rotex International was represented in Brazil at the 5th National Rotex Conference in the city of Aracaju by our committee member, Gabriel Araújo. The conference happened from November 3-5 and its goal was to connect Rotex Clubs from different parts of the country for collaboration, development, and learning!
One unique aspect of the conference was that Rotexers were hosted by Rotarians instead of staying at hotels or hostels, which gave them the opportunity to relive the feeling of being on exchange and having new host families.
“It was an indescribable feeling having a host family again after so long,” says Gabriel.
Rotex clubs in Brazil exist under different circumstances than the ones in Europe, due to their relatively new existence and general lack of support from Rotary districts. Nevertheless, some Rotex clubs have already managed to develop an outstanding relationship with their corresponding districts, and hopefully this will set the tone for future Rotex-Rotary District relationships in Brazil!
Along with the Rotex Conference, the Brazilian Conference for Youth Exchange (ABIJ) took place at the exact same time, allowing the participants to interact and show the importance of their work as Rotexers to our fellow Rotarians in Brazil. In order to best facilitate this, Gabriel and Marcelo Tanaka, another Rotexer from São Paulo, held a presentation about Rotex’s work nationally and internationally to all interested chairs. The presentation generated a lot of conversation, and the presenters were fortunate enough to receive tips and feedback from Rotarians about how to best develop Rotex in Brazil in the coming years!
The Rotex International Board is excited to see what Rotex in Brazil will accomplish in the future and is ecstatic about the new relationships that are forming between Rotex and Rotary! Keep up the good work, everyone!
